Dale W. Hofmeister, 89, of rural Prophetstown, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Loraine United Methodist Church in rural Prophetstown, IL. Reverend Keith Bradley will officiate. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a time of visitation and luncheon immediately following the memorial service, in the church hall. Private graveside services are being held at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, prior to the memorial services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Loraine United Methodist Church. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with these services.
Dale was born on August 22, 1928, to Rollin and Florence (Jacobs) Hofmeister on the Hofmeister farm in Loraine Township. That farm became an Illinois Centennial farm in 1902. Dale graduated from Geneseo High School in 1946 and joined his father in the operation of the family farm. On July 1, 1951, Dale and Joan E. Ole, of rural Cambridge, were united in marriage at Grace E.U.B. Church in Geneseo. After getting married, the couple lived in Springhill, IL, until returning to his passion, the Hofmeister family farm, in 1962. In 1974, Dale began working for Hulting Hybrids in Geneseo, and raised seed corn for several years. He retired from Agri-Pro in 1991. In 1995, Dale retired from farming. Dale was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau and the Loraine United Methodist Church in rural Prophetstown. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors and keeping his entire farm manicured with his mowing. Dale truly loved his family and was dedicated to helping them whenever they needed it.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife, Joan; son, Daryl (Christy) Hofmeister, Hillsdale, IL; daughter, Karen (Jeff) Kincaid, Prophetstown, IL; daughter-in-law, Tura Kaye Meyer, FL; grandchildren, Meegan (Dennis Michael) Henderson, Shannon Hofmeister, Rebecca Hofmeister, Eli (Jennifer) Kincaid, Maria (Ryan) Sager, Johnna (Austin) Chesney, and Peter Kincaid; and step-grandchildren, Kyle Piester, and David (Luisa) “Tres” DuBois.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Rollin and Florence; son, Dennis M. Hofmiester; twin brother, Glen Hofmeister; and sister, Marjorie Brodie.
