Doris J. Murphy, 87, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 at KSB Hospital in Dixon, IL. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with these arrangements. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Humane Society’s Building Fund or to New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, IL.

Doris was born on March 4, 1930, the daughter of Anton and Ramona (Wharrie) Scubic in Coal City, IL. She graduated from Coal City High School. Doris married E. James Murphy on September 3, 1949. He preceded her in death in 2001. Doris worked as the office manager for Jim Smith Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Coal City, IL for many years. She enjoyed antiquing and flower gardening. Doris was an avid college basketball and Notre Dame football fan. She enjoyed staying up to date on Geneseo sports teams. One of Doris’s greatest joys was her great-grandson Jack. Doris was a member of the Eastern Star organization and the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Carol Washburn, Geneseo, IL, and her brother, Dale (Patricia Vidmar) Scubic, Coal City, IL, grandson, James (Sarah) Washburn, and great-grandson, Jack Murphy Washburn.  Doris is also survived by her grand-dog Sadie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Ramona, her husband, James, her sister in-law, Patricia Halliday Scubic, brother and sister in-law Frank and Louise Hanley, and several other brother in-laws and sister in-laws.
