Edwin T. “Ted” Countryman, 83, of rural Annawan, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Mineral United Methodist Church. Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church (10:00-11:00 a.m.) Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be left to the Ted Countryman Memorial Fund. Cremation rites have been accorded. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ted was born on August 21, 1934, the son of Clarence and Martha Mae (Johnson) Countryman, in Casey, IA. He married Karen Bengston Gilbraith. Ted worked for the former Boar Power Company in Annawan as site manager and salesman for over 30 years, from which he retired. He raised Coon River blue ticks & beagle dogs for showing and hunting for many years and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Ted was a member of the Coon River Blue Ticks Hunting Club, and traveled through Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin, participating in raccoon hunting competitions and pelt trading. Ted loved to spend time with his friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen, sons, Edwin Starr Countryman, GA, David (Michelle) Countryman, FL, and Jason (Erin) Gilbraith, IL, and his daughters, LuAnn (Brian) Burton, FL, and Diane (Robert) Catton, IL. Ted is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Martha Mae, daughter, Cheri Gilbraith, two sisters, and a brother.
