Florence G. Hendrickson, 89, of Geneseo, died Saturday, December 9, 2017, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 16, at Concordia Lutheran Church, in Geneseo. Reverend Stephen Mueller will officiate. A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 18, at Crystal Lake Memorial Park, in Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary, Concordia Lutheran Church or the Geneseo Education Foundation.
Florence was born on October 17, 1928, in Crystal Lake, IL, the daughter of Charles and Freida (Holtz) Gumprecht. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School and Northern Illinois University. She married James Hendrickson in January 1957 in Crystal Lake. He died in March 1981. She taught third grade at Northside Elementary School in Geneseo from 1969 to 1994. Prior to that, she taught in Marengo and Algonquin. Following her retirement, she continued to work as a substitute in the Geneseo School District. She greatly influenced generations of Geneseo students.
Florence was an active 23-year member of the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered more than 5,000 hours and had served in multiple officer positions on the Auxiliary board over the years. She also was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Concordia Ladies League. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, traveling and water aerobics.
She is survived by her children, Mary Hendrickson, of Jacksonville, N.C. and Steve Hendrickson, of Parker, CO; brother, Charles Gumprecht; sisters-in-law, Karin Barnwell and Joyce Novovesky; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, and brothers, Arnold Gumprecht and Edwin Gumprecht.
