"Out of the blue" after 15 years Gary entered my mind - so I simply googled his name & discovered he had passed 4 weeks prior. He not only was a great mentor as an ag teacher for students, but also as mentor for adults such as I. I student taught under Gary. He was so intelligent & quite the sharp dresser too.! More importantly - Gary was one of the kindest people I have ever met in my entire life. I feel blessed to have known him - what a gift to the world he was!

I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I am a fellow classmate at Black Hawk East and Illinois State. Donna Vermeire is my sister. I enjoyed being friends of Gary's and a fellow classmate and FFA Advisor only in MN. My best to wife, daughters and other family members. We too HATE Parkinson's.

Gary and I were classmates. I believe it was our Freshman year at AHS. He and I both had left feet....He was so patient and accepting...we laughed and laughed!! Years later he my sons in AG and shop. When I couldn't find my boys, I'd take a trip down to the AG room and I'd find them there--swapping fishing and hunting stories! He was THE best teacher for boys..taught them how to build, which are skills they use today...The world is going to miss Gary, but it's time for you to rest now for awhile. You did good!! I hope my grandsons have an AG teacher half as great as you. RIP Gary!

Gary was very instrumental in my success as an Agriculture Teacher! I student taught with Gary and it was a fantastic experience. In that short time he taught me so much about what it took to be a good ag teacher. Although I no longer teach Ag, but rather have moved into administration, what he taught me will always be a part of who I am and how I do what I do. Condolences to the family and friends on the loss of a great man.

Gary was a great man. He taught me so many things that I use every single day of my life. From how to run a meeting, how to negotiate a sale or contract, do work around the house or speak in public... this man taught it. Gary and his FFA program was so so much more than farming. I wish he could teach my sons all the things he taught me.
