Gladys Jean Stemmley

Gladys Jean Stemmley, 93, of Sun Lakes, AZ, formerly of Orion, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, Arizona. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20^th at 11:00 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory in Geneseo. Reverend Melva England will officiate. Burial will be in the Orion Lutheran Cemetery in Orion, IL. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Gladys Jean Stemmley Memorial Fund.

Gladys Jean was born April 11^th, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Iona (Standard) Soderberg, in Orion, IL. She married Fred Stemmley on November 24, 1942, in Missouri.  Gladys Jean worked at Anniston Army Depot in Bynum, AL for 25 years. Gladys Jean volunteered at the Stroke Center while living in Palm Springs, CA and was a life member of the Elks Lodge.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Fred; her daughters, Linda (Rick) Harrison of Montevallo, AL, and Mary Tolbert of Reno, NV; four grandsons, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Iona and sisters, Martha Bodeen, Maxine Dorman, and Shirley Skinner.
