Helen E. Schallow

 

Helen E. Schallow, 91, of Geneseo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren, on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Christopher Ritter will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Geneseo Humane Society. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, is assisting the family with these arrangements.

 

Helen was born on December 11, 1926, the daughter of Henry and Hilma (Jokinen) Ikkala, in Marquette, Michigan. She was united in marriage to Louis B. Schallow on September 7, 1946, in Michigan. Louis preceded her in death in 2013. Helen worked in the supply department of Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo for 28 years before her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and active in the Women of the Moose, Hammond Henry Hospital Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her dogs. Helen was a proud grandmother, and loved staying up to date on her grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael (Gwen) Schallow, of St. Charles, IL, daughter, Corrine Waldbusser, of Geneseo, grandchildren, Sarah Shrake, Scott (Becky) Waldbusser, and Kristin (Anthony) Whitt, and two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Emma.

 

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilma, husband, Louis, a grandson, Ryan, four brothers, and a sister.
