Irene J. Jacobs

Irene J. Jacobs, 95, a resident at New Perspective Senior Living, Silvis, formerly of Geneseo, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 20, 2019, while at her home at New Perspective. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Jeff French will officiate. Burial will follow at North Cemetery, Geneseo.  Military Honors will be accorded. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church, Geneseo.

Irene was born on September 11, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Anthony and Wanda Orkwis. She proudly served our country in the United States Navy Waves (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from 1943-1945. She was united in marriage to John Tady on October 20, 1945.  John preceded her in death on January 9, 1957. She later married Walter F. Jacobs on December 5, 1959, in Rock Island.  Irene was a loving mother, grandmother, and housewife.  She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Geneseo. She enjoyed going to garage sales, playing bingo, her neighborhood club on Wolf Rd., and attending sporting events.

Survivors include her husband, Walter; children, Marilyn VandeWalle, Rock Island, Jerry (Mary) Jacobs, Geneseo, Guy (Marsha) Tady, Mesa, AZ, Jan (Tom) Unruh, Erie, IL, Doug (Susan) Jacobs, Newton, KS.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, with one on the way.

Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, John, daughter, Wanda Sutton, sons, John, Michael, and Kenneth, sister, Helen, and brothers, Ray and Edward.
