James L. Cross

James L. Cross, 56, of Atkinson, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Military rites will be accorded following the service. Minister Jeremy Monk will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the James Cross Memorial Fund.

James was born on May 25, 1962, in Moline, IL, the son of Clarence and Alberta (Dennis) Cross. He attended Rock Island High School and later graduated from Hamilton Tech College with a B.S. in electrical engineering technology. He served in the United States Army. James was united in marriage to Dona J. Lawson on August 3, 1985, in Rock Island. He was employed at Parr Instrument Company in Moline as a lab testing technician and then at Kewanee Boiler Co. and C.B. Kramer as a boiler tech. He retired from Deere & Co. as a field test technician in the research and development field. He was a member of the Church of Christ and loved online pool and euchre, golfing, gardening and cooking.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dona, children, David (Hannah Woodard) Cross, Atkinson, Jesse (Mairead Steadman) Cross, Moline, Amanda (Tom) Garcia, Colona, grandchildren, Emerson Jade and Stark James, father, Clarence Cross, Rock Island, brothers, Mike Cross, WI, Mark Cross, Milan, Tim (Kandice Miles) Cross, Rock Island, mother-in-law, Mickey Lawson, IL, and three brothers-in-law.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta, infant sister, Carol, baby Cross, grandson, Gabriel Garcia and his father-in-law, Elmer Lawson.
