Janice Thurston, 98, of Roswell, New Mexico, and formerly of Geneseo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at her son’s residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Janice Thurston Memorial Fund.
Janice was born on December 2, 1920, in Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Guy L. Thurston, on October 20, 1989. Guy worked at John Deere Spreader Works, in East Moline, and Janice was a homemaker. Before Guy retired from John Deere, they bought a farm near Geneseo, and raised black Angus cattle. They retired in Geneseo and hit the road in their motor home. Winters were spent in Florida.
She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Bob) Hullender, San Antonio, TX; son, Curt (Liz) Thurston, Roswell, NM; grandchildren, Mike (Ruth) Hullender, Pensacola, FL, Greg Hullender; great-grandsons Kevin and Christopher Hullender, San Antonio, TX; great, great-grandson William Hullender, San Antonio, TX; sister- in- law Chotty Hess, Lowden, IA; brother- in- law Edgar Kublic, Bennet, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
