Jerry Verdick Obituary

Jerry L. Verdick, 71, of Port Byron, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Don Cherry VFW Post. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Jerry Verdick Memorial Fund. The family would like to invite their friends and loved ones to join them for a memorial luncheon at the Geneseo Moose Lodge, immediately following the committal services at the cemetery.

 

Jerry was born on February 4, 1947, the son of Clarence and Katherine (Price) Verdick, in Morrison, Illinois. He is a graduate of Manlius High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army. Jerry married Glenda Fordham, they later divorced. On April 11, 1981, Jerry married Sherie M. Powers in Sheffield, Illinois. He was employed at Timberlyn Lighting Company in Geneseo, where he was the general manager for many years before his retirement. Jerry was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Port Byron. He enjoyed rolle bolle and attending auctions and garage sales. Jerry loved the time he spent with his family and grand-puppies.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include wife, Sherie, son, Rob Verdick, of Geneseo, daughter, Jessica (Cody) Vipond, of Geneseo, his father, Clarence Verdick, of Davenport, three grandchildren, Jonna, Jerry, and Clint Verdick, and two great-grandchildren, Max & Adam Lee. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Judy (Tom) Wallace, of Port Byron, Steve (Mary) Verdick, of Peoria, and Bruce (Lisa) Verdick, of Texas.

 

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, and by his son, Adam John Verdick.
