John A. Lucas, Jr.

 

John A. Lucas, Jr., 65, of Colona, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, listening to Frank Zappa, on August 3, 2018, at Genesis Medical Center – Illini Campus, in Silvis, Illinois. A private funeral service will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018, with military honors, and will be followed by a public visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place in Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the John A. Lucas, Jr. Memorial Fund.

 

John was born on July 10, 1953, the son of John Alan Lucas, Sr. and Sally (Patterson) Lucas, in Camp Lejeune, NC.  He married Kathy Visser Lucas, and they raised two daughters together. They later divorced. John attended Black Hawk College where he received a Phlebotomy Tech certification. He worked as a health care provider and phlebotomist for several local Quad City healthcare locations. Known as “Painless John” he was very accomplished and talented and always provided a painless and easy experience for his patients. John was a musician and was known for his love and appreciation of all things music. As a US Navy veteran, John liked following and discussing politics.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Ayla K. Lucas and her son, Archer, of East Moline, and Edie P. (Adam) Gentry, and their daughter, Addison, of Atkinson. John is also survived by his brothers, Patrick Lucas, of West Hollywood, CA, Trace Lucas, of Geneseo, Les (Cindy) Lucas, of Colona, and Mike (Wanda) Lucas, of Annawan, and, sisters Karen (Bill Damm) Lucas, of Howell, MI, and Cyndi Lucas, of St. Charles, MO, stepmother, Carol Lucas, of St. Charles, MO, and a step-sister, Deb Powell, of Elsie, MI.

 

John was preceded in death by his father, John Lucas, Sr., mother, Sally Humphrey & step-father, Russ Humphrey.
