John was born on August 10, 1932, in a farm home in rural Henry County, the son of Ferd and Grace (Kilby) Schillinger, the second son in a family of six. He graduated from Orion High School and farmed with his brother, Joe until he was drafted into the Army. John is a proud veteran of the United States Army. During his time in the service, he learned to pilot planes at Fort Sill, OK.  He married Judy McLean in 1959. The couple were blessed with five children before they separated. Judy preceded him in death in 1998. John later married Thelma Millsap on August 8, 1976. Thelma also preceded him in death in 2010. After his time in the service, he owned and operated a portable ready-mix business. John later purchased a feed and fertilizer business in Viola, IL, which he eventually sold to purchase Viola Materials. John was an independent concrete man and later worked for cement contractors in the Chicago area, which allowed him to travel to Florida to build ocean barriers in the Keys. Fishing and piloting his Cessna aircraft were his passion. He also enjoyed fly fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory include, sons, Randy (Vicki) Schillinger, Moline, Mark D. Schillinger, McHenry, IL, Shawn (Melissa) Schillinger, Cordova, and Shane (Jenny) Schillinger, Rapids City, IA, and his daughter, Renae (fiancé Dan Ziegler) Schillinger, Floodwood, MN. He has nine grandchildren. John is survived by his brother, Richard (Diane) Schillinger, Lynn Center, IL, and sisters, Carol (Bob) Reese, Cordova, Sharon (Lawrence) Pirkl, Colona, Sunny (Jim) Moorhusen, Cordova, and sister-in-law, Margo Schillinger, Geneseo.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ferd and Grace, his wives, Thelma and Judy, and one brother, Joe Schillinger.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
