Lanny Rae Minnaert, 75, of Geneseo, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at his home in rural Geneseo. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 23, at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo. Father Pakula will celebrate. Burial will follow at Colbert Cemetery in Hanna Township, Geneseo. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry or the Ag Scholarship Fund.
Lanny was born on December 12, 1942, the son of Clyde and Elsie (Turf) Minnaert, in Geneseo, IL. He married Veronica Hecks on June 16, 1963, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson. Lanny was a lifetime beef producer and commissioned cattle buyer for Tyson Foods Inc. He was a long time member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, and was active in Cursillo. Lanny was also a member of the Hand & Hand Rolle Bolle Club, Henry County Beef Association, Geneseo Rolle Bolle Club, an active volunteer at Hammond Henry Hospital, and participated in Marriage Encounter. Lanny was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed playing rolle bolle and playing cards with his friends, and loved to travel out west. Most of all, Lanny enjoyed spending time and working with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Veronica; children, Debi (Ken Atkinson) Minnaert, Jerrod (Andrea) Minnaert, Shawn (Chris) Minnaert, Audra Minnaert, Lance (Carissa Jones) Minnaert, and Jolene (Brandon Yocum) Minnaert, all of Geneseo; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Lanny is also survived by his sister, Judy Shepherd, Geneseo.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Elsie, brother, Larry Minnaert, and a brother-in-law, Earl Shepherd.
