Laura J. Favre, 90, of Geneseo, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Unity Point Health – Trinity, Rock Island. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. Reverend Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Laura Favre Memorial Fund to be distributed amongst several local organizations.
Laura was born on July 24, 1928, the daughter of Orlando and Sadie (Peters) Ludwig, in Chicago Heights, IL. She is a graduate of Edwardsville High School. Laura was united in marriage to Jacob “Jake” Favre on August 10, 1947, in Mt. Olive, IL. Jake preceded her in death in 2013. She worked as a homemaker from her own home and raised five children. Laura was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneseo, and active in the Women of the Moose and Academy of Friendship clubs. She also participated in the Impact Group, which lectured to those arrested for drunk driving, as well as the Tourism Council for Geneseo. Laura was a member of the Victoria Walk Committee for many years and is a proud founding member of Richmond Hill Players. In 2017, Laura was selected to sit as Grand Marshall in the Christmas Walk parade, in recognition of her many years of volunteering for so many local groups and organizations. She was very instrumental in, and loved helping build many parade floats held throughout the year.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Wayne (Christina Hellwich) Favre, of Nordland, WA; daughters, Yvonne Favre, of Rock Island, and Jackie (Mike) Skiles, of Geneseo; six grandchildren, Joe, Aubry, Michael, Kari, Jacob, and Dana; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Orlando and Sadie; husband, Jacob; and daughters, Sharon Favre and Catherine Pulling.
