Margaret Mahoney

Margaret E. Mahoney 88, of Geneseo, passed away on Friday, July 27, at Good Samaritan Society-Geneseo Village. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Peoria, IL, on Thursday, August 9, 2018. A Rosary service will be held in her memory at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in St. Malachy Catholic Church's daily chapel. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, is assisting the family with these arrangements.

Margaret was born on August 7, 1929, the daughter of Thomas C. and Margaret (Schurtz) Mahoney, in Peoria, IL. She graduated from Manual High School in Peoria with the class of 1947. She worked as a clerical supervisor for Great Central Insurance Company in Peoria, and later retired from the company. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church. Margaret was very giving and passionate about St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She was also very involved and passionate about helping the kids at St. Malachy Catholic School. Margaret loved anything Disney and Orlando Magic, and the Chicago sports teams - Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks! She was also a fan of older, sentimental movies.

Those left to cherish her memory are several close friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret, and brother, Reverend John A. Mahoney, former pastor of St. Malachy.
