Marilyn N. Benzon, 95, of Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2018, in Delavan, WI, where she had been residing with her son. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Susan Cripe Benzon will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to Mosaic of Bushnell, IL, a social services organization for people with intellectual disabilities, at 207 W. Hail St, Bushnell, IL 61422.
Marilyn was born on November 8, 1923, the daughter of Maxwell and Maude Norcross, in Orion, IL. She graduated from Orion High School with the class of 1941. Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert Benzon on June 1, 1946, in Orion. Robert preceded her in death on June 21, 2014. Shortly after her high school graduation, Marilyn became a member of the Randall Sisters Trio and traveled the country performing in theaters, hotels, and dinner clubs. Later the Trio signed with the USO and performed at many Naval and Army bases on the east coast and in the midwest. She and her husband lived in Cambridge, IL, where they raised their two children. Marilyn served as organist at both the First Baptist Church and Lutheran Church before the family transferred to Omaha. While living in Omaha, she worked as a receptionist and secretary at Omaha State Bank. In 1984, Marilyn and Robert moved to Geneseo. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Rebecca Circle, Geneseo Art League, and was a charter member of Valley View Country Club in Cambridge.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dr. Steven Benzon and spouse Rev. Susan Benzon, Delavan WI, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Maxwell and Maude, husband, Robert, daughter, Sally Ann, on December 26, 2016, and sisters, Genevieve Jors, Martha Shanks, and Ruth Johnson.
