Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, IL. Those serving as pallbearers will be Michael Atwell, Bruce Fehlman, John Greenwood, Mike Haugse, Kevin Paxton, Denny Reese and Larry Vandersnick. Mary Lou was born on October 9, 1926, the daughter of Lewis and Mabel (Dahlgren) Synkersen. She married Charles L. Sheets on September 11,1948. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1984. Mary Lou graduated from Galva High School in 1944 and then went on to Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1948. She worked for ten years for Dr. P. J. Doering and Dr. J.C. Parsons and later became a charge nurse/manager for over 25 years at Hammond Henry Hospital.

Mary Lou was an outstanding cook and baker of yeast breads/rolls/pastries and pies. She enjoyed hosting and attending coffees and happy hours, playing bridge, watching college and NBA basketball and listening to Geneseo football on the radio. She was an avid reader and listener of TV news. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Geneseo and active participant of the United Methodist Women and for many years helped with funeral lunches. She found great enjoyment caring for her grand dogs. Involvement in her grandson, Hunter’s life, brought her the most special joy.

Special acknowledgement and gratitude to the Woodridge staff and the hospice team and special friends, John and Diane Greenwood, for the attentive care, kindness, and respect they provided daily. She loved and appreciated every one of them.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Julie (Steve) Fiers of Geneseo; grandson; Hunter Fiers of Chicago; brother, Dean Seefeld of Normal, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents, Lewis and Mabel Synkersen; two brothers, two sisters, and her granddog, Vinny,  who passed away a few days before her.
