Maxine V. Marchese

 

Maxine V. Marchese, 96, of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Hammond Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at St. Malachy Catholic Church. Father Michael Pakula will celebrate. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the Funeral Mass. Private Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left to Abilities Plus in Kewanee, IL. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.

 

Maxine was born on March 13, 1921, the daughter of William and Josephine (Mathis) Grant, in Keokuk, IA. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Rock Island, IL. Maxine was united in marriage with Carmelo T. Marchese on February 7, 1942, in Rock Island. Carmelo preceded her in death in 2001. Maxine was the former auditing supervisor for Sears and Roebuck Company in Moline, IL, working there for 30 years. She was a member of the St. Malachy Altar & Rosary Circle #8 and Cursillo. Maxine also sang in the funeral choir at the church for many years. She volunteered for Hammond Henry Hospital Foundation for 25 years. Maxine played a key role, along with Hazel Pettit, in starting the resale shop at Abilities Plus in Kewanee, IL. She was also part of the Geneseo Kitchen Band and the Kids on the Block Puppet Program. Maxine was a longtime bowler and golfer as well as a very talented artist.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Carm (Linda) Marchese, Rock Island, and Bill (Margo) Marchese, Cambridge, and her daughter, Ginny (Bob) Pettit, Geneseo. Maxine is survived by her twelve grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, William and Josephine, husband, Carmelo Marchese, son, Michael, and two grandchildren, Brad Marchese and Suzie Pettit.
