Michael A. Broxterman, 61, of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL, and military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the National Epilepsy Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Michael was born on October 21, 1957, the son of Leo J. and Elaine M. (Kubes) Broxterman, in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1975, and proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. Michael was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a radar technician working at Andrews Air Force Base, Dulles International Airport, and at the Peoria Airport for a career of 18 years. Michael was a former Boy Scout. He enjoyed trains, fixing electronics, photography, nature and walking. He especially enjoyed having coffee and helping his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Elaine Herold, of Geneseo; two sisters, Kathy (Dan) Dykema of Geneseo, and Mary Newnam of Rockton, IL; two nephews, Kyle Newnam, Anthony Dykema, and his niece, Kyra Newnam.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Leo Broxterman, his stepfather, Bill Herold, his grandparents, his nephew, Joshua Newnam, and two aunts.
