Raymond L. Gentry, 83, of Atkinson, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo, IL. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson. Memorials may be left to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Ray was born on May 9, 1934, the son of Ralph and Ruth (DeWolf) Gentry, in Geneseo. He graduated from Atkinson High School. Ray married Kenlyn E. Verschoore on November 6, 1954, in Davenport, IA. Ray was a horse trainer for 45 years. He judged the American Quarter Horse division at horse shows for 33 years. Ray was a very talented man. He enjoyed doing oil paintings. Ray’s true love was horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kenlyn; son, Rock (Val) Gentry, TX; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl (Mike) Lewsander, Port Byron, IL; and his brothers, Winfred (Ruth) Gentry, Atkinson, Jack (Elaine) Gentry, Moline, IL, Roy (Vanda) Gentry, Viola, IL, Keith (Sandy) Gentry, Chatham, IL, Jim (Audrey) Gentry and Rich (Pat) Gentry, Atkinson, IL.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth, sister, Connie Edwards, and by two grandchildren.
