Roger H. Struss

Roger H. Struss, 93, of Silvis, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4^th, 2018, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Geneseo. Reverend Stephen Mueller will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Concordia Lutheran Church.

Roger was born on November 7, 1924, the son of Henry and Anna (Reiling) Struss, in Barstow, IL. He graduated from United Township High School. Roger married Joanne B. Scheel on October 12, 1996, at Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked as a lineman for Geneseo Telephone Company for many years and retired in 1994. Roger was a long-time, dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He served as president of the Site Council for several years. He was a member of the Geneseo Senior Kitchen Band for ten years. He also volunteered for Unity Point Hospice.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joanne; step-daughters, Carol (Gerry) Chretien, East Moline, and Susan (Jerry) Lee, Colona; step-son-in-law, David Carrithers, Williamsburg, VA; eight step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Roger is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joann Struss, Silvis, IL.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna, a step-daughter, Nanci Carrithers, a step-great-great-granddaughter, Ryleigh, two brothers, Rolland and Norm Struss, and two sisters, Marjorie Mercer and Lucille.
