Royce A. “Buzz” Stenzel

Royce A. “Buzz” Stenzel, 83, of rural Cambridge, passed away on December 30, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Long Term Care Unit. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, IL. Reverend Laura Kamprath will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, an hour and a half prior to the funeral service, at the church and a Masonic ritual will be held at 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service by Stewart Lodge No. 92 AF&AM. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Geneseo Humane Society. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, is assisting with these arrangements.

Royce was born on July 24, 1934, the son of Roy and Margaret (Swanson) Stenzel, in Geneseo, IL. He was united in marriage to Sharon D. Barritt on October 18, 1953 at First Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Royce farmed in Munson Township for over 60 years and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and dogs, wood working and he was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, Henry County Genealogical Society, Henry County Historical Society, Bishop Hill Heritage Society, a member of Scottish Rite, Eastern Star. He had been a Mason since 1957 and a perpetual member of Stewart Lodge No. 92, Geneseo.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Sharon, daughters Susan (Ronald) Hucke, Glendale, AZ and Judith Stenzel, St. Louis, MO, niece Deborah (Scott) Hawkins and nephew Rodger (Stephanie) Rickman.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Margaret and a sister Joyce Rickman.
