Ruth A. Selander

Ruth A. Selander, 91, of East Moline, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Hammond Henry Hospital Long Term Care in Geneseo, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Reverend Matt Kamprath will officiate. Entombment will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Hammond Henry Hospital Foundation.

Ruth was born on May 26, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Mayme (Carlson) Kellett, in Aurora, IL. She was a graduate of the East Aurora High School. Ruth was united in marriage to William G. Selander on April 17, 1948, in Aurora. William preceded her in death in 2003. Ruth was a librarian’s assistant for United Township High School for many years. She enjoyed reading, poetry, crossword puzzles, and scrapbooking. Ruth was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

I know it may seem trite to say but Ruth Ann (Kellett) Selander was the best!  In her almost 92 years here with us, she did all the common things; golden childhood, wartime adolescence, post-war marriage, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren – but she did them all so well.  She filled all the cracks and crevasses between those common guideposts with love, creativity, and laughter.  I wish I could have the time and your attention to tell you all I know – it would fit volumes.  You would laugh, you would cry, you would be amazed at the talent she possessed.  You would love her as we do.  And now, you would regret the last chapter, and beg for more as we do at this time.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Shari (Brad) Storm, Geneseo, IL, and Susan (Gary) Schobert, Plano, IL, son, Timothy (Elia) Selander, Arlington, TX, grandchildren: Dan Schobert, Melanee (Ken) Johnson, Rachel (Bob) Woodrick, Andrea (Adam) Raftery, Kaci Storm  (fiancé Matt Vermillion) and Tyler (Kelly) Storm; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Haley, Mia, Owen, Charlie, Chambers, and Annabel. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Seifert, Yorkville, IL.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mayme, husband, William, one brother, and one sister.
