Shirley A. Enyeart-Nelson, 86, a resident of Hillcrest Home, formerly of Atkinson and a past resident of Orion, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, at the nursing home in Geneseo. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson. Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Research Association, St. Anthony Catholic Church, or Our Lady of Peace Church in Orion.
Shirley was born on July 13, 1932, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Lievens) Taets, in Atkinson, Illinois. She married Donald Enyeart in November of 1951. They later divorced. Donald preceded her in death in 2004. Shirley later married Donald Nelson in January 1992. Mr. Nelson preceded Shirley in death in 2011. She worked as an independent jewelry sales associate for Sarah Coventry, Jewels by Parklane, and Celebrity Jewelry. Shirley was a long-time member of Our Lady of Peace Church in Orion, and St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, reading, and especially loved watching golf.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, John (Cindy) Enyeart, of Erie, IL, Tom (Vicky) Enyeart, of Atkinson, Jerry (Darcy) Enyeart, of Atkinson, and Larry (Teresa) Enyeart, of Bloomington, IL; daughters, Vicki (Gary) Carrington, of Atkinson, Conni (Steve) Bristol, of Geneseo, and Kay (Ed) McCoy, of Anchorage, AK; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Portrey, of Hillsdale, IL, and Phil St. Jean, of Rhode Island.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth, husband, Donald Nelson, three sisters, Rita Portrey, Barb St. Jean, and Judi Tieken, and a brother, David Taets.
