Theodore “Theo” L. Giebel

Theodore “Theo” L. Giebel, 41, of Geneseo, passed away suddenly, September 13, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Reverend Stephen Mueller will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Don Cherry VFW Post. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been scheduled to follow the funeral service. Visitation will be Sunday, September 17, 2017, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo High School Music Department or the Geneseo Animal Shelter.

Theo was born on August 4, 1976, the son of Roy “Mike” and Eugenia (Stark-Ryser) Giebel, in Geneseo, IL. He attended Geneseo High School and graduated with the class of 1994. Theo served in the United States Navy from 1994-2000, aboard the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70. He graduated from Black Hawk College in 2003 and attended Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. Theo worked at the Waubonsee Community College in Aurora, IL, and Oswego School District before returning to Geneseo. He was employed with the City of Moline Public Works, and was assigned the custodial care of the Moline Public Library. Theo worked part time at Casey’s General Store in Geneseo.  He loved music, and enjoyed motorcycles and riding his Triumph. Theo was an avid T-shirt collector for many years. Theo was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Those left to cherish Theo’s memory include his mother, Eugenia, Geneseo, his brothers, William Giebel, Geneseo, and Taylor (Beth) Giebel, Conover, NC, and his sister, Michalea Giebel-Moore, Geneseo. Theo has three nephews, one niece, two grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew.

Theo was preceded in death by his father, Roy “Mike” Giebel, and by his grandparents.
