Verda L. Burbridge, 74, of Yates City, IL, formerly of Milan and Geneseo, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Verda Burbridge Memorial Fund.
Verda was born on April 16, 1945, the daughter of Rollin and Doris (Larson) Nelson, in Rock Island. She graduated from Geneseo High School. She attended beauty school, and then went to Blackhawk College to study commercial banking. She married Dennis Burbridge in 1980. He preceded her in death in 2010. She married Vance Stewart in 2017. Verda was employed by Quad City Bank & Trust as a commercial loan processor for 19 years. In previous years, she was a beautician in Geneseo. She was a member of Williamsfield United Methodist Church where she played in the bell choir. She was active in the community, serving as a Junior Achievement volunteer at Bicentennial Elementary School in Coal Valley, United Way volunteer, DeLaCerda House board member, AMBUCS volunteer, and a Harvest Home committee member. She enjoyed water skiing, boating, and fishing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing board games and cards. Her friends meant the world to her, and she cherished all of the fun memories they made together.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Vance; sons, Justin (Jami) Burbridge, Geneseo, and Chad Miller, Moline, IL; daughter, Felecia (Eric) Fuller, Byron, IL; step-daughters, Natalie Stewart, Belvidere, IL, and Allison Stewart, Pickerington, OH; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; sisters, Karen (Larry) Rice, Geneseo, and Heloise (Dick) Plazak; and several nieces and nephews.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis, and two sons, Bradley and Brent Burbridge.
