Abbey Ann Sanchez

Abbey Ann Sanchez, 36, of Atkinson, IL passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her home. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2 P.M. – 5 P.M. at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to her husband, Alex Sanchez, to set up school funds for her children.

Abbey Ann DeGrave was born on March 2, 1989, in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Daniel and LuAnn (Thurston) DeGrave. Abbey graduated from Geneseo High School in 2007. She went on to complete the nursing program through Trinity Nursing School, working at Hammond Henry Hospital, Unity Point, Beacon of Hope Hospice and Generations Nursing and Rehab. She also volunteered as an EMT with Atkinson Fire Department and was the school nurse at Northside Elementary in Geneseo for 2 years. Abbey married Alex Sanchez on September 12, 2015. She loved being with her children and her family. Abbey enjoyed going to watch Quad City sports teams, walking along the river, going on motorcycle rides, and watching for cardinals outside. Abbey was a caring and loving person who was loved deeply and will be missed greatly by everyone she knew.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her mother, Luann DeGrave of Atkinson, IL; husband, Alex Sanchez of Atkinson, IL; children, Jordan and Tessa Sanchez; grandmother, Joyce Thurston of Hooppole, IL; brother, Brad (Nicole) DeGrave of New Lennox, IL; sister Katie (Kyle) Hankins of Andalusia, IL; many, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Daniel DeGrave, and her grandparents.
