Alan L. VanDeWoestyne

Alan L. VanDeWoestyne, 80, of rural Geneseo, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kewanee.  Per Alan’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family.  Memorials may be directed to the Alan VanDeWoestyne Memorial Fund to be distributed amongst his favorite local charities.

Alan was born April 18, 1944, the son of Ralph and Evelyn (Williams) VanDeWoestyne.  He graduated from Atkinson High School, class of 1962.  He served proudly in the Army National Guard.  Alan was united in marriage to Jerilyn Storm on August 14, 1965.  She preceded him in death on January 22, 2023.  Alan was a hog buyer and farmer who loved cattle and county fairs.  He was inducted into the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame in 2016.  He proudly served on the Atkinson and then Geneseo school board for 35 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Brett (Renee) VanDeWoestyne, Brandi (Steve) Catton, and Brooke Bailey – all of Geneseo; grandchildren, Nathan VanDeWoestyne, Katie VanDeWoestyne, Zach Catton, Alyssa Catton, and Bella Bailey; great-grandchild, Nora; and his special friend, Cheryl Phillips of Kewanee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Evelyn VanDeWoestyne; his wife, Jerilyn VanDeWoestyne; and his sister, Kathleen Cauwels.
