After he graduated from Phillips High School in 1953, he attended Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point where he obtained his BS degree in conservation. He proudly served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps.
Archie began his career at the Joliet Arsenal, Joliet, IL where he met Marian, his future wife. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 2022. The Schmidts lived and owned a Christmas tree farm in Wilmington, IL where they raised their 3 daughters, Laurie, Teri & Kristi. In 1973 when Archie was transferred to the Department of the Army, Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois, they moved to Geneseo, IL. Archie always loved the outdoors and especially the woods "up north", so when he retired in 1992, he split his time between his home in Geneseo and his cabin in Phillips, WI. He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, refurbishing bikes, fishing, deer hunting and snowmobiling.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mox; mother, Christina; sisters Betty Swiderski, Mary Ann Schmidt and Janet Janko; and grandson, Brandon Price.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother William Schmidt of Montello, WI; wife, Marian of Geneseo IL; daughters Laurie Price (Casey) of Punta Gorda FL, Teri Unterreiner (Jeff) of Lake Saint Louis MO; and Kristi Morris of Wentzville MO; grandsons Adam Price (Christina) of Taylor Ridge IL; Jarrid Ristau of O'Fallon MO; Rhyan and Jacob Morris of Wentzville MO; great grandchildren, Brendan and Kaycee Price of Taylor Ridge IL; and many nieces and nephews.
