Augustine "Augie" A. Claeys

Augustine “Augie” A. Claeys, 84, of Atkinson, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Hammond Henry Hospital – Long Term Care, Geneseo.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Geneseo.  Reverend David Murphy will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Atkinson.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 15300 Ford Road, Geneseo, IL, 61254.  Online condolences to the family of Augie may be left at www.vandemorefuneralhome.com. 

Augie was born August 4, 1939, the daughter of Frank and Iva Martin, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.  She married Roger Claeys on August 30, 1957.  He preceded her in death on August 18, 2018.  She was employed at John Deere as a custodian where she retired after twelve years.  She also worked in the home health field for many years.  Augie liked spending her spare time bird watching, crocheting, gardening, and baking.  She loved her dogs, watching Little House on the Prairie, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, and traveling with Roger on fishing trips, where they also camped and hiked.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Judy (Larry) Claeys of Atkinson, and Jana (Dale) Claeys – Rozendaal of Lynnsville, IA;  grandchildren, Anita (Bill) Theisen, Ashlie (Mike) Lively, and Andrea (Matt) Oliver; and great-grandchildren, William, Wyatt, Wesley, Walker, Owen, Jake, Luke, Kade, Claire, Leana, and a baby boy that is on his way.

Augustine was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Al Forseth; her loving husband, Roger Claeys; and siblings, Oneida, Lester, Marie, Burl, and Frank.
