Barbara J. Grunwald

Barbara J. Grunwald, 91, of Geneseo, IL, passed away on December 4, 2022, at Hammond Henry Long Term Care Center-Geneseo. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2022, at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory-Geneseo Chapel with Reverend Tim Doty officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Vandemore Funeral Home website.  Memorial visitation will be held from 12-1 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Moline Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in her name to the Henry Co. Humane Society. Barb was born on May 5, 1931, in Moline, IL the daughter of Henry and Marion (Larson) Wood. She married Charles Grunwald in 1951 and he preceded her in death in 2020. Barb graduated from Moline High School in 1949. She attended Moline Business School and volunteered for hospice. She became the church secretary for Geneseo First Presbyterian Church and worked there until her retirement. Barb was very active in the church and the women’s club. She lived at Woodridge Assisted Living for 4 years and always had a smile, bringing people joy and laughter. She cherished her family dearly and enjoyed sewing, animals, working in her garden and canning vegetables.

Barb is survived by her children; Jon (Wendy) Grunwald of Geneseo, Mindy (Ann Higgins) Grunwald of Farmington, MN and Kathy (Allen) Alexander of East Moline, grandchildren; Brandon (Justine) Meeks, Jake Grunwald, Brandon Alexander and sister, Catherine LePoidevin of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Shirley Wilburn and brother, David Wood.
