Barbara “Sam” C. Dalin, 65, passed away on November 25, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at First United Methodist Church-Geneseo with Reverend Chris Ritter officiating. The service will be livestreamed at Geneseo First United Methodist Church's Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/GeneseoFUMC). Memorial visitation will be held from 12-2 PM prior to the service at the church. Memorials can be made in her name to the Maple City Band or First United Methodist Church. Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory-Geneseo Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
Sam was born on February 5, 1957, in Moline, IL the daughter of Robert and Helen (Eichsteadt) Carlson. She graduated from Riverdale High School Class of 1975. She then went to Augustana College and earned her Bachelor’s in Music Education in 1979. Sam married Michael Dalin on July 7, 1979, and he still survives. In her younger years Sam played tennis, softball and track. She also loved playing cards, being outside gardening and riding and raising horses. She was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader and was heavily involved in the training of leadership, even winning the Silver Beaver Award during her time with the Scouts. Sam loved playing the flute, she played in several bands including The Quad City Wind Ensemble, Maple City Band, Bettendorf Park Band and was also the music librarian for Maple City Band for many years. She enjoyed cross-stitching and would make stockings for the Festival of Trees every year.
Sam is survived by her husband, Michael Dalin, son, Robert (Katherine) Dalin of Niles, IL, brother, Richard (Mary Ellen) Carlson of Geneseo, sister, Deborah Owens of Moline, IL, niece, Jennifer (David) Passini, step-nephew, Matthew (Laura) Wilson and step-niece, Amy (Michael) Wilson Lackey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Carlson.
