Betty Laleman-Vroman Obituary

Betty A. Laleman - Vroman, 93, of Geneseo, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Hammond Henry Hospital Long Term Care in Geneseo, surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo. Father Michael Pakula will celebrate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at St. Malachy Catholic Church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass and private inurnment services will be held at North Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Betty Vroman Memorial Fund, to be distributed among several charitable organizations. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel, is assisting the family with these arrangements.

Betty was born on September 13, 1925, the daughter of Roy and Katherine (Ryan) McKenna, in Sterling, IL. She was united in marriage to Fred Laleman on April 7, 1945, in Prophetstown, IL. Fred preceded her in death in 1973. Betty married Alvin Vroman on February 28, 1976, in Geneseo, IL. Alvin also preceded her in death in April 2018. She worked at the Geneseo Junior High cafeteria for several years. Betty was a lifetime member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and was active in the Altar & Rosary Society, Circle #6. She was also a member of the Parents’ Club at St. Malachy Catholic School, and Cursillo. Betty was proud to have made one of the very first Cursillo weekends in the Diocese of Peoria.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Ron Laleman, of Collinsville, IL, Rick (Connie) Laleman, of Bloomington, IL, Steve (Marjean) Laleman, of Geneseo, Tim (Deb) Laleman, of Geneseo, and Jeff (Sandy) Laleman, of Rock Falls, IL; daughters, Mary Beth Farber, and Marcia (Gregg) Swanson, both of Geneseo; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Eyrich, of Prophetstown, IL and sister-in-law Bonnie Vroman. Betty is also survived by Al’s family, whom she loved, Dan (Betty Jo) Vroman, Jim Vroman, Tom (Laurie) Vroman, all of Hillsdale, IL and their eight children and 15 grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Katherine, husband, Fred, second husband, Alvin, seven brothers, five sisters, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Laleman.
