Cary D. Klockenga, 79, of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Loraine Church, 28782 E 2000th Street, Prophetstown, IL, 61277. Linda Watters will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Cary was born on February 25, 1944, the son of Gilbert and Lorena (Druin) Klockenga, in Geneseo, IL. He graduated Geneseo High School Class of 1962 and went on to obtain an associate degree from Blackhawk. On May 1, 1966, he married Nancy Urban. She preceded him in death in 2012. He later married Donna Fortune on August 9, 2014, and she survives. Cary started work at Ozark Airlines, then became a teller at Central Bank, Colona Bank, and Atkinson Bank. Cary also was employed as a sales associate at Turpin Motors Inc. from 1986 until his retirement in 2006. He was a Equiteen 4-H leader for many years, member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Illinois Quarter Horse Association, Tri-County Cruisers Car Club, Maple City Cruisers Car Club which he co-founded, Missouri Pleasant Hill Car Club, and founder of NIPHA (Northern Illinois Pleasant Horse Association). Cary had a lifelong love of horses and cars. He enjoyed showing horses and judging at horse shows. He especially loved going to Scottsdale and Tulsa horse shows with Donna. His past times also included watching car restoration shows, house remodeling, rodeos, going to the movies, trips to Branson, going to Pleasant Hill Cruise Nights, trail riding when his boys were young, and watching westerns – especially ones that included John Wayne.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Donna Klockenga; sons, Cory (Tammy) Klockenga of Clio, MO and Michael (Regenia) Klockenga of Pleasant Hill, MO; Christine (Lee) Eastburn of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Jordan, Allie, Ryan, Jason, Aaron, Katherine, Stephanie, Jacob, Kimberly, and Katie; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Searra, Kalyn, Chase, and Rylynn; brother, Gilbert (Marian) Klockenga of Prophetstown, IL; brother-in-law, Terry Urban of Portage, WI; and nieces, Mackenzie and Kaley Urban.
Cary was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Lorena; his first wife, Nancy Urban; and sister, Betty Vroman.
