Charles F. DeMay, 86, of Annawan, IL, passed away on February 2, 2023, at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehab-East Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan, IL. Reverend Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, February 6, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory-Atkinson Chapel with Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 4:30 PM. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan. Memorials can be made to the Charles DeMay Memorial Fund. Condolences can be left at www.vandemorefuneralhome.com.
Charles was born on the family farm in Annawan on December 23, 1936, the son of, Edward and Marguerite (Boelens) DeMay. He graduated from Annawan High School in 1955. Charles married Marlene VanVooren on August 23, 1958, and she survives. He received the DeKalb award in FFA for his passion in pursuing agriculture. Charles started farming the family farm in 1958 after his father died. He also worked at the Kewanee Sale Barn for over 30 years and Hatzer Nordstrom in sales. He was a life member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church the Knights of Columbus and served as president of Holy Name Society. Charles enjoyed playing cards with the guys, going on fishing trips and bowling. He especially loved going to his grandchildren’s activities.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marlene DeMay, sons; Michael (Chris) DeMay, Thomas (Trilla) DeMay and Terry (Tracy) DeMay, grandchildren; Adam (Caitlyn) DeMay, Tara (Jim) Stetson, Logan and Ethan DeMay, Derick (Danielle) Stier, Ashley (Brian) Payne and Daniel (Nicole) Theobold, great grandchildren; Cora, Cooper, Jaelynn, Rilynn, Kalvin, Briley, Parker, Chase, Terry, Sophia and one step-brother, John Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Lou Alter.
