Dale Russell Aper, 82, of Colona, passed away at his home on Monday, May 12, 2025. Cremation rites have been accorded, and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Pastor Timothy Nerud will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Moline American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Logan Post 263 – Lincoln, IL, Orion American Legion Post 255, or any other veteran program.
He was born on December 27, 1942, in Hartsburg, Illinois, to John and Anna (Luken) Aper. Dale graduated from Lincoln Community High School in Lincoln, Illinois, in 1961. He then obtained a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University. Dale pursued a successful path as both a math teacher for the Geneseo school district and then as a financial advisor, establishing his own office in Fulton, Missouri, where he guided numerous individuals with their financial planning. On December 30, 1970, Dale married the love of his life, Linda Benko, at St. Paul’s Church in Whiting, Indiana.
In his leisure time, Dale found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed camping and was an avid fisherman, patiently casting his line in search of the perfect catch. He also possessed a keen interest in automotive mechanics, spending his free time working on cars, and walking his dogs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Linda Aper of Colona; children, Mandolyn (Richard) Davila of Bettendorf, and Tyson (Farrah) Aper of Park Ridge, IL; grandchildren, John, Corinne, Annika Aper, and Alec and Luke Davila; and brother, Norman Aper of Arlington, TX.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Aper; sisters, Joan Richner and Doris Werth; and brothers, Lowell, Weldon, Melvin, and Paul Aper.
