David Farmer Obituary

David Kennedy Farmer, 79, of Geneseo, passed away at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, on Monday, July 13, 2026. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at National Cemetery Arsenal Island, Rock Island, Illinois, where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside service, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, who will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family for his grandchildren’s education.

David was born on August 20, 1946, in Urbana, Illinois, the son of Dr. David and Winifred (Kennedy) Farmer. He graduated from Mansfield High School, Mansfield, Illinois. David served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1971. While he was stationed at various bases in the US, including Massachusetts, New Jersey, and South Carolina. He spent most of his time based in Germany, where he learned to speak flawless German. During his years of service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Sharpshooter M-14. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. On April 11, 1981, David married Delores Spiegel at First Baptist Church in Kewanee, Illinois.

He retired from his position as branch manager at Dove Equipment in Moline, Illinois. David was a member of the Baha’i faith. A history buff, he was always watching a documentary or reading a biography. David loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time walking around town. Some of his favorite family vacations include touring Europe, road tripping to Canada, and the Biltmore Estate. A lover of dry humor, a good one-liner, and Star Wars, he was thrilled to see the Millennium Falcon during his visit to Walt Disney World. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Delores of Geneseo; daughters, Sarah (Mike) Sunstrom of Geneseo, and Amanda (Mike) Treimer of New Liberty, Iowa; brother, Stephen (Natalia) Farmer of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Scarlett Sunstrom, Stella Sunstrom, Eve Sunstrom, Marissa Treimer, Lydia Treimer, Rowan Treimer and Isla Treimer.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. David and Winifred Farmer, and a miscarried grandson.
