David J. Rakestraw

David “Dave” Joseph Rakestraw, 64, of Mineral, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at his home.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel.  Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the funeral home.  The family requests that you please come to the services dressed in your favorite sports team attire.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service.  Memorials may be directed to the Annawan Athletic Boosters and the Annawan-Alba Fire & Rescue Squad.

Dave was born December 4, 1959, the son of Duane and Shirley (Sierens) Rakestraw, in Kewanee, IL.  He graduated from Annawan High School, class of 1978.  David married Kathy Vyneman on July 30, 1988.  He farmed with his father for many years, he even farmed with his grandfather for a time before that.  Dave was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed spending his free time golfing, playing rolle bolle, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was an avid supporter of the Annawan Athletic Booster Club.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Kathy; children, Kelsey Rakestraw of Annawan, Heath (Sonia) Rakestraw of Mineral, Raquel Frankenreider of Yorkville, and Shannon (Chelsea) Frankenreider of Annawan; grandchildren, Myla Rakestraw, Peyton Frankenreider, Baylor Frankenreider , Charlie Frankenreider, and Collins Frankenreider; siblings, Deb Rakestraw of Naperville, Duane (Linda) Rakestraw of Geneseo, Denise Howell of Geneseo, and Darrell Rakestraw of Annawan.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Shirley Rakestraw; grandparents; brother, Daniel Rakestraw; and brother-in-law, Jim Howell.
