Dean Meier

Harold Dean Meier, 86, of Hooppole, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Allure in Prophetstown, IL. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Hooppole Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Isaac Newton and Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will follow at Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel. Harold Meier, born on December 24, 1938, in Prophetstown, IL, was the son of Harold and Ruby (Dersham) Meier. Dean married Norma Loudenburg on March 4, 1962, and she survives. He worked as a farmhand for many local farmers as well as drive trucks for Atkinson Grain & Fertilizer and Vetters Trucking.  A longtime member of the Yorktown Church of Christ, Harold found joy in his community and faith. He loved to water fight with the fire department where he spent 26 years and had a passion for fishing, camping, and listening to polka music. One of his favorite traditions was attending the Mt. Pleasant Old Threshers Reunion with family and friends. A proud Boy Scout dad, he also took great joy in supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events. 

Those left to cherish his memory include; wife, Norma Meier of Hooppole, IL; sons, Junior (Sharon) Meier of Annawan, IL, Merle (Lori) Meier of Illinois City, IL, Doug (Lisa) Meier of Hooppole, IL; sisters, Donna May (Ed) Merema of Lyndon, IL, Connie Dennison of Rock Falls, IL and Nancy (Donald) Hunter of Lyndon, IL; grandchildren, Tonya (Jeff) Brown, Sheri (Dwaine) Shaw, Crystal Carrington, Jennifer (Charlie) Harker, Benson Meier, Elizabeth (DeWayne) Stropes, Jill Meier; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Tubby” and Ruby (Dersham) Meier; siblings, Stan Meier, Lavona Salzar, and Richard Meier; and grandson, Brett Meier.
