Don R. Miller, 93, of Mineral, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Hillcrest Home. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10th, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson. Pastor Scott Miller will officiate. Visiting Hours will follow from 3:30 to 5:30 at Vandemore – same location.
Don was born on May 27th, 1933, in Pekin, IL, the son of Mahlon and Esther (Eigsti) Miller. He graduated from Mineral High School in 1952, where he was a basketball player. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Hodgett in 1952 in Mineral, IL.
Don was a member of the Mineral United Methodist Church and was a career truck driver. He loved scratch-building model trucks and was an avid model railroader.
He is survived by his sister Janice (Warren) Maher and brother, Oris (Kay) Miller; his sons: Jed (Chris) Miller of Woodhull, IL, and Scott (Terri) Miller of Tremont, IL; grandchildren: Amber, Eric, Brad, Heather, Matt, Emily, Noah, and Katie Jo; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Thanks to the Purple Onion Breakfast Club (the “Brain Trust”), because Dad so enjoyed your friendship and company. Thanks to the Mineral Community Church members for all the great times shared with Don. Thanks to the Mineral Historical Museum for displaying all our town’s history and Don’s part in that.
Special thanks to Elinora McCauley and her family for all that you meant to Dad and to our famiy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years: Phyllis. his parents, and his brother: Roger.
