Dona Marie "Mickey" Lawson, 97, of Geneseo, entered her eternal rest in the early morning hours of June 20, 2025, at Hammond Henry Hospital. Cremation rites will be accorded with Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel and services will take place at a later date. Memorials can be made in her name to the Henry Co. Humane Society.
Born May 31, 1928, Mickey was the eldest of six children of Clarence and Treva (Doss) Mizner. After her father's death she was raised by her stepfather Harold Wagoner. As a young woman she worked as a seamstress and then in a munitions factory during the war. She married her childhood sweetheart, Elmer, on December 15, 1945, dedicating her life and love to him until his passing January 2, 2014. Together they raised four children, farmed the land, travelled, and enjoyed their large extended family.
Mickey loved dancing, crafts, her cat Riley, and butterflies in all forms. She never passed a yard sale without stopping and couldn't resist anything purple. She was famous for her potato salad recipe, which she guarded closely. Her children and grandchildren will forever miss that big bowl of love that she brought to every family function.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, son Darrell Lawson, daughter Dona (Cross), son-in-law James Cross, daughters-in-law Connie Lawson, Jeanne Lawson and Barb Lawson, as well as siblings Shirley "Annie" Kiddoo, Joyce Kernan, Myrtle McWhorter, Clarence and Alvin Mizner. Left to cherish her memory are sons Chuck Lawson of Atkinson and Mike Lawson of Nebraska, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Although greatly saddened by her loss, her large family takes great comfort in knowing her beloved Elmer awaited her on the other side of the stars.
