Donald Eugene Doubler, 85, of Annawan, IL, peacefully passed away on July 29, 2023. Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory - Atkinson Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery outside of Annawan. Don was born on October 13, 1937, in Alba Twp, IL, the son of William, Sr. and Elizabeth (VanVooren) Doubler. He graduated from Annawan High School in 1955. He joined the Illinois National Guard and went to work for John Deere in Moline. Later in life, he moved on to US Ecology in Sheffield as a heavy equipment operator, handling radioactive waste for 34 years. After retirement he co-owned and operated an earth-moving business in Neponset. He married Karen “Judy” Doubler, the love of his life, on February 7, 1959, and she preceded him in death on September 4, 2019. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He enjoyed reading, playing Rolle Bolle and was very interested in U.S. western history.
Those left to cherish Don's memory are children; Dawn (Michael) Russo of Millsboro, DE, Todd (Debbra) Doubler of Rochelle, IL, grandchildren; Alaena Lee Doubler and Wyatt Steven Doubler; great-grandchildren Jace Doubler and Lyra Barber.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Doubler, wife, Karen “Judy” Doubler, brother William Doubler, Jr. and sister Marilyn Wakenight.
