Donald D. Ritter

Donald D. Ritter, 91, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at his home.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Loraine Church, Prophetstown, with a visitation an hour prior to the service at the church.  Jim Bos will officiate.  Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery, Erie, IL.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to Loraine Church.

Donald was born February 8, 1933, the son of John and Nina (Murphy) Ritter, in DuQoin, IL.  On July 4, 1952, Donald married Arvilla Franks.  She preceded him in death on September 27, 2024.  He was employed as a welder by Geneseo Welding for over twelve years.  He was also manager of operations for Harry Bensberg farms.  Don was a member of Loraine Church and after retiring, enjoyed making apple pies for the church.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels.

Those left to cherish his memory include sons, Les (Roxanne) Ritter of Geneseo, IL, James (Carol) Ritter of Vernon, AL; daughters, Diana Bos of Geneseo, IL, Teresa (Steve) Tuttle of Ravena, OH; brothers, Jerry (Joanne) Ritter and Fred Ritter; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nina Ritter; his loving wife, Arvilla Ritter; grandsons, Leevon Ritter and Cody Tuttle; and brother, Robert Ritter.
