Dorothy M. (Widger) Armstrong

Dorothy M. Armstrong, 93, of Geneseo, IL, passed away on August 18, 2023, at Allure of Geneseo. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery-Geneseo. Memorials can be made to the family. Dottie was born on September 21, 1929, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Charlie and Irene (Talbot) Widger. She married Charles Splear and then later Vern Armstrong, both preceding her in death. She worked as a hair stylist for 35 years in Geneseo and also at Walmart in Boone, IA and Geneseo for 20 years before retiring. Dottie was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Ladies of the Moose and Catholic Society of Foresters. She enjoyed dancing, reading and going shopping and getting her nails done with her daughter Jeanette.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Jeanette DeWitt of Atkinson, grandchildren; Roman (Jennifer) Verbeck, Taunya (Shawn) McGee, Tobias “TJ” (Shelley) Splear and Tony Nelson, great grandchildren; Jamison Jaycee and Jordan Verbeck; Abbigail, Hannah and Rachel McGee; Kaden, Bryson and Mya Splear and Gabe Nelson, daughter-in-law, Lorraine Splear, half-brother, Jackie Brouse and niece, Janice Drawyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Sam Splear, son-in-law, Vern DeWitt, grandson, Jamie Verbeck, sister Betty Packee and half-brother, Paul Truleson.
