Dorothy Hutchinson Anderson

Dorothy Hutchinson Anderson, 102, of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Hillcrest Home – Geneseo.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 10:30 am at Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Reverend Matt Kamprath will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory - Geneseo Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to the Cambridge Ambulance Service and the Cambridge Lutheran Church.   

The former Dorothy Munson was born May 16, 1922, in Moline, the daughter of Fred and Vera (Slater) Munson, graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.  She married Richard Hutchinson on February 4, 1942, in Kahoka, MO.  They farmed for thirty years.  He preceded her in death January 16, 1973.  She later married Sheldon Anderson on October 21, 1992, in Branson, MO.  He preceded her in death on February 6, 2002.

Dorothy worked for several years as a sub in the grade school and high school cafeteria.  Later, she worked for several years at Swans Variety Store in Cambridge.  She briefly worked at Hillcrest Home and Osco Fireworks.  Dorothy was a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church and Women of the CLCA, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and Flemish Club in Kewanee, and the Red Hat Society.  After retirement she volunteered for many years at the beauty shop at Hillcrest Home.  She and her husband Sheldon enjoyed many years of motorhome travels.  She loved to dance and listen to music, and enjoyed taking the grandchildren fishing, swimming, McDonald's, and the movie theaters.  She liked to feed and watch the birds and do crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Holevoet of Milan, IL: a son, Jeffrey (Crystal) Hutchinson of Cambridge, IL; seven grandchildren, Corey (Debbie) Holevoet, Garth Holevoet, Chad (Sue) Hutchinson, Jo Lea (Joseph) Holevoet, Adam (Michelle) Hutchinson, Jill (Jeff) Franks, and Joshua (Samantha) Hutchinson; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vera Munson; husbands, Richard Hutchinson and Sheldon Anderson; son Steven Hutchinson, daughter-in-law, Sylvia Hutchinson; son-in-law, Albert Holevoet; daughter-in-law, Karen Hutchinson; two grandsons, Jason Hutchinson and Jesse Hutchinson; granddaughter, Deanna Holevoet; and special sister-in-law, Alice Vinstrand.
