Dorothy Johnson Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” E. Johnson, 88, of Geneseo, IL passed away peacefully on Monday September 25, 2023, surrounded by family.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on October 5, 2023, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Reverend Stephen Mueller will officiate.  The burial will take place at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on October 4, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.

Dot was born on September 11, 1935, the daughter of William and Ruth Marquardt in Lombard, IL.  She was the eldest of eight children.  She graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn in 1953.  On October 11, 1953, Dot married Richard Johnson in Glen Ellyn, IL.  He preceded her in death on May 6, 2001. She was a homemaker and mother of four.

Dot was a faithful member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Geneseo.  She enjoyed baking, especially her famous Christmas cookies.  She also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with her 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  Dot was very proud of her volunteer work at Hammond Henry Hospital, and as a leader for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She was very involved with her church as a counter and member of the Concordia Ladies’ League. Dot was thoughtful, loving, and unconditionally supportive of her family.  She had a sweet tooth, loved flowers, and seemed to excel at every craft she tried. Dot will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, sense of humor, and love of practical jokes.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Donna Johnson of Eagle River, AK, Bob (Penny) Johnson of Geneseo, IL, and Diane (Steve) Johnson of Nederland, CO, and her siblings, Lucille, Lois, Sandy, and Billy. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth; husband Richard Johnson; son Rick Johnson; and sisters Jean, Marilyn, and Shirley.
