Dorothy Mariman Obituary

Dorothy G. Mariman, of Bluffton, SC passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024.

She was surrounded by family and her life was celebrated in the days that followed as she would have wished: with love, tears, laughter, music, and praise to the faithfulness of God through her spirit-filled life.

Dorothy was born on June 7, 1945 the daughter of Clifford and Betty (Seifert) Shearer in Princeton, IL  She graduated from Orion High School and attended Black Hawk College. She married Marvin Mariman on February 23, 1963, and was a wonderful mother to their two sons, Kent and Devin.

She worked in a few different settings throughout her life and retired from Natural Gas Pipeline in 1998 with 17 years of service.

The joys of her life were worshipping her Lord and Savior through music and prayer, and loving, caring for and enjoying her family.

She sang and played piano in church as a child, and continued to do so throughout her life, and also led choirs and helped organize worship teams.  She used those God given talents at celebrations for young couples beginning their life together and for families saying good bye to their loved ones. Her love for the Lord and joy was evident to all who knew her.

Dorothy's special times were enjoying her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was an ever-present source of love and strength to them.  She was always there to assist them in times of need, brought fun and laughter to every situation, and provided a constant cover of prayer over them.  She made many precious memories that will be treasured by her family forever.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marvin, sons, Kent, Hardeeville, SC and Devin, Princeton, NJ, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a sister, Karen Arnold, Bloomington, IL.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Tara Lynn, her parents, Clifford and Betty, and her brother David Shearer.

Cremation rites have been accorded and no services will be held per her wishes. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.

Dorothy's family would like to thank the Memory Care staff at Canterfield of Bluffton for their loving care where she spent the last 6 months.

One excerpt from the several tributes by her grandchildren is a fitting testimony to her life and legacy:

“I see the generational love she wove into me. That Jesus wove into me, through the person that she was. I see Jesus brought me closer to Him through her. How he used her arms as His own to hold me close during absolutely impossible circumstances.

As Psalm 145:4 says "One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts."

Grandma, we'll take it from here.”
