Douglas Neely Obituary

Douglas G. Neely, 50, of Geneseo, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, 2020, at Hammond Henry Hospital – Emergency Department.  A private funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Reverend Melva Graham England and Reverend Ryan Shannon will officiate.  The funeral service will be livestreamed at Vandemore Funeral Homes Facebook page at 10:30 a.m. for family and friends that are unable to attend the private service.  A drive through only visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home.  Due to COVID – 19 regulations, you will not be permitted to get out of your cars.  You will be directed once arriving at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the private services and private inurnment will be held Monday, May 4, 2020, at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL.  Memorials may be directed to the Doug Neely Memorial Fund and distributed amongst several organizations.

 

Doug was born June 2, 1969, the son of Herbert and Peggy (Gearhart) Neely, in Moline, IL.  He attended Geneseo High School, graduating in 1987.  He then attended Black Hawk College.  In March 2019, he married Tracy Hofmann Glawe in Cancun, Mexico.  He was employed by Civil Contractors, currently as a crane operator, for 30 years.  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, and Eagle’s Club.  He was also a member of the Midwest Operating Engineers Local – 150.  He enjoyed being in his garage, working and restoring his truck , a talent which was a gift from his dad.  He enjoyed boating, bowling, and was a NASCAR fan.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tracy; mother, Peggy Neely, Geneseo; brother, Derrick (Therresa) Skiles, Geneseo; sister, Danise (Mike) Neely Hotham, Erie, IL; nieces and nephews, Devin Neely, Skylar Neely, Mandi Skiles, Megan Skiles, Morgan Skiles, Ally DeLaCruz, Tess Skiles; several great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Shelby.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert in 1991.
