Douglas Packer Obituary

Douglas “Doug” A. Packer, 73, of Geneseo, IL passed away on January 4, 2024, at his home. The graveside service previously scheduled for the 12th at the Arsenal will be postponed due to the impending weather situation.   A graveside service will be rescheduled for a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded by the Moline American Legion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home – Geneseo Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Doug Packer family and will be distributed amongst local charities.


Douglas was born on March 21, 1950, the son of Harold and Lucille (Stage) Packer. He attended Prophetstown High School, graduating in 1968. He married Gloria Dowdy and together they had and raised their son, Jason Packer. They later divorced. He later met and married Diana Sette in May of 1990, in Rock Island, IL.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Doug was employed at John Deere Parts Distribution Center, where he worked in receiving for fifteen years, then transferred to John Deere Harvester – retiring from the powerhouse after thirty years of service.  After retirement, he later worked for the City of Geneseo mowing grass at the cemeteries. He loved following his kids and grandkids in sports and activities. Doug enjoyed golfing, going on road trips and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.


Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Diana of Geneseo; son, Jason (Raven) Packer of Carmi, IL; daughters, Brooke Rogowski of Atlanta , GA, and Brina (Rick Chase) Mauch of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren, Katelynn (Tyler) Fritz, Dylan Kress, Dusty (Cierra Piasecki) Kress, Maddie Mauch, Cheyenne (Ally) Layman, Avery (Bo Fry) Packer, and Jozie Perkins; great-grandchildren, Lilly Fritz and Owyn Fritz; his loving dog, Charlie; cat, Jazz; and several nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille Packer; sisters, Marilyn Waite and Barbara Dowell; brothers, Ross Harold and Donald Packer.
